FINNEGANS
was founded in 2000 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Jacquie Berglund, from the belief that each and every one of us can make a difference in our community, and that true passion in this belief can move mountains and make magical things happen.  FINNEGANS Irish Amber was the first beer in the world to donate 100% of its profits back to the community.

From the beginning, FINNEGANS was established to be a self-sustaining business. FINNEGANS Inc., which owns the beer brand, is a for profit S Corporation.  We pay our bills and our salaries (our goal is to all have market value salaries sometime in the near future) and all profits are then donated to the FINNEGANS Community Fund, a 501©3 non-profit.

Over 98% of the funds that land in the FINNEGANS Community Fund are distributed to our non-profit partners to support hunger alleviation in each state where our product is sold.

In Minnesota, profits go to support the Emergency Foodshelf Network’s Harvest for the Hungry program – an innovative program in which fresh produce is purchased from local farms and is then distributed to local food shelves.  In 2011, six new farms were added to the program and over 42,000 pounds of fresh produce was purchased and distributed to food shelves in Minnesota through donations from the FINNEGANS Community Fund.  Our goal for 2012 is to bring this program to our other markets (North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin).  Read more about our non-profit partners and the FINNEGANS Community Fund here.

Up until 2009, there was only one full time staff member at FINNEGANS.  In 2011, three full time positions were added and we’ll be adding one more full time staff member in 2012.  But we are still mostly supported by individual volunteers, pro-bono company partners and sliding scale company partners that share their time and talents to support our mission, and ultimately help to create healthier communities.

In March of 2012, FINNEGANS Blonde Ale was released!  The Blonde Ale is a limited release product offered in 6 packs and on draft.

We have also made giant leaps in 2012 with our donations. Through our first quarter we were able to raise the equivalent of 74,519.8 lbs of fresh produce! Working closely with the Emergency Foodshelf Network, we have added 3 new farms in greater Minnesota and our first farm in North Dakota!
