The Brewer’s Log: A Note From Ryan
Brew, cellar, package, repeat. The month of November is upon us. Getting everything out for you in October was fun. Now that the snow has fallen, dark beers are needed to warm up our bellies and spirits. As we all have come to know, a great lager can also set the tone for nights spent inside with loved ones. Be it at dinner, watching the latest streaming show or movie, or shuffling out six cards a time to finally beat your Mom at cribbage…sadly, virtually. Nonetheless, a cold beer can bring us all together and lift our spirits. This month is a great time for us in the FINNEGANS beer world. Let me tell you about two of our newest beers. I am proud of both; not one more than the other.
Rescue + Recharge 4.5% ABV 16 IBU American Lager
Brewed in support of Firefighters For Healing, a local non-profit that helps first responders and burn survivors, along with their families, to provide physical, emotional, and financial support. The lager is light yellow in color and brewed with a hint of American hops. It’s refreshing, crisp, and clean. It was lagered for 35 days and filtered to be highly drinkable and thirst quenching, as an American Lager should be. Personally, it reminds me of watching the bald eagle soar with unlimited freedom to roam treetops, rocky cliffs, and river valleys. This is our first 12 oz. 12 pack–only release (sorry, no kegs), and it’s available at local liquor stores now! We are brewing only a limited amount, so get it while you can.
Avena 6.5% ABV 33 IBU Oatmeal Stout
I am really excited for all of you to try this. This was the first type of beer I tasted where my mind was changed in 1999: beer was spectacular. Avena is the genus of the wild stalks and plants better known as oats. It’s brewed with more than 35% malted and flaked oats to provide a silky and smooth mouthfeel. This stout has notes of dark chocolate and roasted malt, with the slightest hint of smoke from the dark malts. I brewed this to slowly break us into the long-awaited winter…which showed up a little earlier than we were all expecting. Avena is available in our taproom now for pints and growlers. It’s super delicious.
Let’s all have a grand November. Eat, love, drink beer, vote, go sledding, grill in the snow, deep fry a turkey, and most of all stay safe. Come grab a growler, 750, or pint from our Beertenders in the taproom. Grab a six-pack, 12-pack, or, hell, a keg at the store. Make sure we take care of each other, one beer at a time. Slainte and happy November!
