Mary Rick Named CEO of New Social Entrepreneurship Collaboration

The FINNovation Lab and Impact Hub MSP today announced Mary Rick as CEO of their emerging collaboration to help social enterprises launch, scale and expand. Located in the new FINNEGANS House development upon completion of construction, the collaboration’s goal is to grow the social business sector, create good jobs, with particular attention and outreach to underserved communities, and support social innovation in the business community.
“We’re extremely excited to bring Mary on to lead this unique new collaboration,” said FINNEGANS, SBC CEO and founder of FINNovation Lab Jacquie Berglund. “Mary’s commitment to supporting social entrepreneurship throughout her career has been remarkable and I know she will bring that commitment to this collaboration each and every day.”

“As a co-founder of Impact Hub MSP and respected leader within the Global Impact Hub community, Mary is uniquely positioned to understand and advance the social entrepreneur landscape in this market,” said Impact Hub MSP Board Chair Ben Aase. “Knowing how best to create an environment that can support and scale the impact of this group of social business leaders will be a great asset to this relationship and the entire community.”

Rick will lead strategy and operations of FINNovation Lab and Impact Hub MSP under the guidance of a Joint Governance Board created to steer the new relationship. The two groups will build out infrastructure to include venture services, business acceleration, and access to capital, as well as co-working and community events.
“I’m honored to take on this new role and excited to create a world-class destination that inspires community engagement, social innovation, and economic opportunity for all,” said Rick.
For the past five years, Rick led Peace Coffee’s multi-channel wholesale growth as Director of Sales. A successful, 50-employee, mission-driven coffee company based in Minneapolis, Peace Coffee was one of the first public benefit corporations in the State of Minnesota and is a recognized leader in the fair trade movement.

Previously, Rick served in senior roles with national socially responsible business networks, including the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) and Investors’ Circle. She helped launch The Hoop Fund, a mission-driven crowd funding start-up. Her past projects include work for sustainability leaders such as Clif Bar, Seventh Generation, Organic Valley, and New Belgium Brewery. She’s also served as a judge with the Minnesota Cup the past two years.

Rick received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and a Master of Business Administration in Sustainable Business from the Bainbridge Graduate Institute in Seattle, Washington.

Outside of the office, Rick enjoys spending time with her wife and baby and speeding around Minneapolis on her bike.
