March Brewer’s Log: St. Patrick’s Day

Oh, March! The greenest month of the year. Not in the “fresh, newly grown grass” kind of way, but in an “Irish pride” sense! Many of us like to claim we’ve got a little Irish blood in us. . Well, 23andMe says I’m about 1.8% Irish or British. Yes! We will be open on St. […]
Patrick’s Day to celebrate and consume frothy beverages. It seems like years ago that we shuttered our doors for last year’s celebration, but really it’s only been 365 days. Having the ability to be open is huge news for us. And, it will be our third year celebrating our home in downtown Minneapolis. To really honor our doors being reopened, I will be putting a new-but-old-beer, Biere de Mars, on tap, along with 750ml bottles as well. Let’s do this.
Biere de Mars 2021 6.4% ABV
It’s the same as you remember but oh so magically different, too. This iteration was aged in apple whiskey barrels for 51 weeks. Previously, the beer had been aged in Blackberry Whiskey barrels for up to six months. This time, the long aging created more complex flavors of honeydew melon and apricot. The palette is still that sharp bite of wheat and hops, with the tart simplicity of the Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus. I truly love making this beer. It’s absolutely delicious and decisively wonderful. I’ll be tapping this beauty for St. Patrick’s Day and beyond ‘til it’s gone.
Our lineup of beers in the taproom will be vast. We’ll be pouring fresh kegs—made the day before the festivities—of our classic Irish Amber s. It’s possibly the freshest some of you may ever try. Our other year-round offerings, like Cluster Truck IPA, Armory Laker Blonde, and Dead Irish Poet, will have their spot on our wall, too. Others like Mischievous Pixie Lager and Rescue + Recharge will also be there for a limited time. You can purchase 12 oz. cans of Hailstones Scottish Ale to enjoyat the taproom, too. Last but not least, Starry Night Stout will also be making its debut on tap for our event. You’ll have lots of choices.
Our taproom is set up perfectly for social distancing, and we will also be opening up our Brewer’s Den for more seating capacity. For those who feel more comfortable outdoors, our patio will be set up with fire pits and plenty of logs to burn. Come by and have a pint or two…or three. Celebrate this day because if there is anything we all know, it’s that we all deserve a day or two. Or three. Sláinte, and I’ll see you all—in person—real soon.
