You might already know that FINNEGANS is made possible by a large team of volunteers as well as dedicated full time staff. Some of our most dedicated volunteers, who go by the name FINNterns, help us out a ton while gaining valuable professional experience. In the past, we’ve gotten FINNterns from Twin Cities colleges and universities like St. Thomas, The U of M, Carlson, Macalester, St. Kates, and St. Johns. These bright students get real, hands on experience working with a social entrepreneurship, as well as excellent networking opportunities with professionals all over the Twin Cities.
Here are a couple of former FINNterns who have now made their way into the working world:
Matt is currently a Planning Analyst at Target. He was a FINNtern in the summer of 2011. He says his experience as a FINNtern helped him learn how to fit into a fast growing company and constantly adapt to change. His views his experience with FINNEGANS as one of the reasons he got his current job, saying “Looking back, my interview had a lot of behavioral based questions and most of these questions dealt with small group performance and team dynamics. Having that unique experience at Finnegans gave me the ability to draw a strong parallel to the questions I was answering and the Target culture I would be working in.”
Cassie is an Associate Financial Analyst at Ecolab. She started as a FINNtern in the fall of 2011. She started as a Sales Analyst Intern with Finnegans, working with our distribution chain, and was hired on as a Sales Coordinator before taking her current job at Ecolab. She says that working with FINNEGANS gave her extensive analytical and database experience, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects at once with conflicting deadlines.
Megan recently got a new job as a Management Trainee at RDO Equipment Co. She used her time as a FINNtern to work towards her goal of becoming well-rounded in all business sectors, as she’s ultimately planning to become an entrepreneur. She gained valuable insight into the world of Social Entrepreneurship with FINNEGANS, where she managed volunteers and large events, as well as managing much of the FINNEGANS website. She says that FINNEGANS has given her a strong insight into different communities in the Twin Cities, such as the Minnesota craft beer community, Irish community, and Social Entrepreneur companies.
Wanna join their ranks?
As a FINNtern, you not only get to hone your own professional skills, but you get to make an impact in your community by working with the charitable mission of FINNEGANS. You can feel proud of your accomplishments while knowing that you’re making a difference for thousands of people.
We are currently looking for fall FINNterns to fill the needs of our quickly growing company. Do you have what it takes to get FINNspired and volunteer with FINNEGANS? If you think you do, please send a resume and cover letter to Tricia Nelson. You won’t regret it.
Here’s to doing extra good this fall.
