Name: Matt Poling
Current Position: Planning Analyst at Target
What experience did you take away that has been the most helpful in your job now?
Definitely thinking outside the box and approaching everything from multiple angles. It was such a positive experience to innovate new ideas and actually see those ideas come to life and make a difference at Finnegans. Since Finnegans is such a fast growing company, each team member is constantly adapting to change. This I feel is a lot like Target, an atmosphere that is fast fun and friendly and always evolving to new a better things.
How did your experience at FINNEGANS help you land your job you have right now?
Working in a large corporation may seem daunting at times but most people in my department work in teams of around 6-10 people, a lot like my Finnegans experience. Looking back, my interview had a lot of behavioral based questions and most of these questions dealt with small group performance and team dynamics. Having that unique experience at Finnegans gave me the ability to draw a strong parallel to the questions I was answering and the Target culture I would be working in.
Do you feel more connected to your local community? Do you feel like you have made a positive impact in your local community?
Absolutely. It was a special feeling knowing that what I was working for was going toward the common good. Finnegans aims to sets themselves apart from most and it was a great privilege to be around those that constantly strive to create a better and much safer environment around us today.
What was your favorite part of FINNternship?
My favorite part about being a FINNtern was the environment. When employees show passion, hard work and enthusiasm day in and day out, you get something very special. It was an amazing experience to not just see the excitement in everyone but to actually experience it. Anyone that has ever worked, volunteered or is fan knows that Finnegans carries a unique set of values that sets themselves apart from many of the small businesses here in the Twin Cities.
