An update from our CEO.

I want to personally reach out to all of you, our supporters and partners, to provide updates on how we are managing these uncertain times at FINNEGANS and how we are adapting our business in order to continue operating within our unique social benefits business model.

These are indeed difficult and confusing times and I marvel at the amazing stoicism and above-and-beyond efforts of our health care professionals, educators, public safety workers, government officials and so many other fellow citizens serving during this time.

The 3rd week of March is typically our busiest and happiest week of the year. This year it turned out to be one of the most challenging in FINNEGANS history. On Monday, March 16th we decided to close our taproom for all St. Patrick’s Day festivities due to the health concerns for all of our customers and employees. We made this hard call before any government announcements – it just felt like the right thing to do. We spent St. Patrick’s Day furloughing our taproom staff and by Friday of that week, had to furlough more full-time staff including myself, reducing our organization down to a skeleton crew. These were difficult decisions and were made in an effort to ensure long-term employment for our staff. I am grateful that we are able to continue paying health benefits to all that are still working and that our remaining team is working as hard as ever with commitment and a whatever-it-takes attitude.

After building this social business over the past 20 years – 2020 is our 20th anniversary and our 3rd anniversary for opening our brewery in Elliot Park Minneapolis – Covid-19 has been devastating for us and for so many others. To all of our distribution partners and retailers who have been at the core of building FINNEGANS over these 20 years, we have so much gratitude and our hearts go out to you and your teams through this all.  In the true FINNEGANS spirit we have gotten back up, dusted ourselves off and are finding new opportunities to serve our loyal customers while continuing to focus on our mission to alleviate hunger, especially during these times.

We are truly touched by the outpouring of support from our loyal fans. Our supporters are purchasing curbside growlers and 750 ML barrel aged beer in abundance, enjoying some of their favorites and leaving some as gifts at the doorsteps of their friends. We have heard so many reports of these acts of kindness. Many folks are purchasing our comfy FINN gear for working at home as well. We are also seeing amazing support at liquor stores – which is very important in order for us to keep going.

I do have some fun beer updates to share. We have several new beers and packages hitting the liquor store shelves just in time for the upcoming warm weather including:

  • Clocked Out – an Unfiltered Wheat Ale.

  • A new 12 pack Fan Pack – this is a new pack with our taproom favorites, Blood Orange Pilsner, Black Currant Tart Ale, Cluster Truck IPA, and Kicked to the Herb Pale Ale is making a reappearance, now made with hemp seeds (we will also have the Kicked to the Herb available in 6 packs starting in May!).

  • Armory Laker Blonde Ale – this package will now be available in 12 ounce 6 packs and 12 packs for the first time – just in time to pack the cooler.

Your ongoing efforts to support us have allowed us to continue to support Food Banks in our region through the FINNEGANS Community Fund when food is so greatly needed. The Community Fund was able to donate $18K in March. In Minnesota $14K of that went to support the Food Group’s Harvest for the Hungry program to purchase mostly organic produce at $1 per pound from local growers, for local food shelves. Our farmers need support too. We have another $5K in the pipeline for April. Thanks to all of you for making this possible.

Twenty years ago, we envisioned a social business model that would be economically sustainable with the belief that businesses could do well while doing good. We remain unwavering in this mission, especially during this critical period and will continue to offer you another way to aid those who need it most. Please understand that it is your support that will continue to drive those efforts and we are as grateful for it today as we were 20 years ago.

The entire FINNEGANS Team thanks all of you who have supported us over the years as well as those of you stepping up to support us at this time. We are going to need you in order to make it out the other side of this. Please stay safe and healthy during this time. I can promise you one heck of a belated St. Patrick’s Day Party when we feel it’s appropriate to safely reopen the taproom. Let’s hold on to our optimism and our grit during these most challenging days.

With My Best Wishes,
