FINNEGANS House Concept to Turn Beer into Food, Lodging, Entertainment and Social Entrepreneurship in Minneapolis

Minneapolis, MN – May 10, 2017 – FINNEGANS SBC today shared details of its new development planned for East Town Minneapolis and the Elliot Park neighborhood. The unique concept will consist of a production brewery and taproom, as well as a social entrepreneurship venture and workspace alongside a planned hotel as part of the new Kraus-Anderson Block.

The FINNEGANS House project is being developed and built by Kraus-Anderson as part of its new downtown mixed-use development. The brewery is a partnership with Badger Hill Brewing Company, while the social business concept is a planned collaboration with the Impact Hub MSP, a community of innovators and entrepreneurs dedicated to driving positive social change.

FINNEGANS first blazed a trail through the craft brewery industry with its innovative social impact model designating all of its profits to charitable causes. It became part of the first cohort of Benefit Corporations in Minnesota and returns all of its profits to the communities in which its products are sold through its support of local agriculture and food shelves.

“FINNEGANS House has long been a dream of mine and I am so grateful to all of our partners that are making it possible,” said FINNEGANS Founder and CEO Jacquie Berglund. “This is a natural evolution of FINNEGANS as we expand and create a place for our fans to immerse themselves in the brand and mission, while providing a place for social entrepreneurs to learn and grow.”

The FINNEGANS House Brewery is an innovative brewery concept in itself. FINNEGANS and Badger Hill Brewing Company in Shakopee have agreed to an Alternating Proprietorship to share infrastructure and efficiently provide both organizations’ popular line of beers.

FINNEGANS and Badger Hill will brew out of two locations, Badger Hill’s 16,000 sq. ft. Shakopee brewery and the new 11,000 sq. ft. FINNEGANS House brewery. The breweries will produce Badger Hill’s lines one day and simply change over to FINNEGANS’ products the next. This type of agreement permits the two brewers to share equipment, ingredients and eliminate other redundancies, leading to leaner organizations and operations on both sides, while providing the highest quality products.

“FINNEGANS and Badger Hill are taking the Alternating Proprietorship agreement to a whole new level,” said Broc Krekelberg, Badger Hill Brewing President. “The partnership will allow significantly greater investment into quality control and manufacturing agility than either brewery could do on its own, providing capabilities that breweries of our size could only dream of not too long ago.”

FINNEGANS has partnered with Summit Brewery to produce its original FINNEGANS Irish Amber recipe since 2003, later adding additional brews such as Blonde Ale, Freckled Rooster, Hoppy Shepherd IPA and Dead Irish Poet Extra Stout

FINNEGANS will begin its own brewing operations sometime in the fall, transitioning from its partnership with Summit.

“Summit Brewing has been an incredible partner and FINNEGANS would not be here without their support and expertise,” Berglund said. “Mark, Damian and their team deserve a great deal of credit for the many people FINNEGANS has been able to support in many local communities over the years.”

Rounding out the overall concept are a taproom, as well as a planned hotel and event space still being negotiated. All will provide a welcoming atmosphere for both local residents and people visiting Minneapolis on business or for fun. The complete FINNEGANS House development has an expected completion date of Spring 2018.
