FINNEGANS believes in turning the profits from beer into food for the hungry, but where does this food come from?
Jacquie Berglund, the CEO of FINNEGANS and Pat Kerrigan, a Program Coordinator from the The Food Group toured Minnesota to visit the family farms, area food shelves, and onsite meal programs that are part of the Harvest for the Hungry program to find out. The Harvest for the Hungry is a program that partners with area food shelves and on-site meal programs with Community Supported Agriculture farms to donate and deliver local and fresh produce to those in need. Hunger has been a growing need within the state therefore FINNEGANS partners to support local communities through the products sold and Harvest for the Hungry partnerships in each Minnesota community. FINNEGANS CEO and co-founder Jacquie Berglund was prompted to develop the partnership with The Food Group due to the growing need in Minnesota. FINNEGANS has enabled the program to expand to more communities, specifically in areas that FINNEGANS is distributed.
Jacquie and Pat visited farms and food shelves working together in West Central Minnesota, including the cities of Hutchinson, Litchfield, St. Cloud, and Alexandria. Gary Brever, owner of Ploughshare Farm in Alexandria, created the idea of Harvest for the Hungry and worked with Pat at The Food Group to initiate the program. Together the farms in this area have 375 member of the Community Supported Agriculture that reach fresh produce throughout the year. In addition to serving their members, they have donated over 2,300 pounds of produce to their local food.
