How many times have you written “Happy birthday!” on someone’s Facebook wall, only to see that one-hundred other people wrote those exact words, maybe with the variation of a smiley face or a link to a cat video? How many times have you written “Happy birthday!” on someone’s Facebook wall, only to see that one-hundred other people wrote those exact words, maybe with the variation of a smiley face or a link to a cat video? Doesn’t it make you feel like less of a friend?

Technology brought us all closer, then added new distances we couldn’t have foreseen. Fortunately, things are on the upswing again. FINNEGANS has teamed up with Schmoney, the social money app, to create Beer It Forward. This ingenious new app allows you to buy your friends a beer whether they’re across town or across the country. Doesn’t that sound better than a half-hearted attempt that really only shows that you check Facebook often enough to be reminded when your friends are having birthdays?

Beer It Forward combines the power of PayPal and Foursquare. You can see when your friends check into a bar or restaurant, and then, using your paypal account, you can send them $5, $10, or $20, depending on how many rounds they are in need of.

But this wouldn’t be a FINNEGANS app if we didn’t find a way to feed the hungry while helping you surprise your friends with free beer. On top of the donated profits that all FINNEGANS beer provides, a 3.5% surcharge from each transaction goes to the FINNEGANS Community Fund. Users can also friend the FINNEGANS Community Fund on Foursquare and make donations directly.

If you keep drinking our Amber and Blonde Ales, we’ll keep thinking up ways to make it easier for you to help your community without leaving the barstool.

Here’s to doing good.
