A mind-blowing marketing idea that was meant to be!

Over the past 14 years in growing FINNEGANS – there have been some great marketing ideas hatched, but I have to admit that the topper of creative ideas was shared with me in a marketing meeting on December 4, 2013 at Martin|Williams Ad Agency (our pro-bono ad agency partner)…the spectacularly creative M|W team unveiled a graphic that would make me damn near fall off of my chair…a “Reverse Food Truck”.

I couldn’t believe the genius of this idea and  I confess here that the rest of the meeting was a bit of a blur…I was so excited that I could barely sit still and I left that meeting proclaiming that I would have a ‘Reverse Food Truck” purchased by the end of the week.

…this is where  the story gets really cool…The FINNEGANS team had planned to have lunch t his day over at Stanley’s NE Barroom in  Minneapolis.  Stanley’s had raised  $2,085 with our ‘Drink Like You Care’ donation tag promotion, which was double their goal to raise $1,000 and we were going over to say thank you. Low and behold, the Marketing Manager at Stanley’s the fabulous Luke Durheim was there. I  know that Stanley’s had a food truck so I thought Luke was the perfect person to speak to about where to find a food truck…it just so happened that he was in the process of looking for a second food truck and he literally pulled up food trucks on his phone as we spoke. By the end of the lunch hour we had sourced a food truck!

The Stanley’s crew

The Stanley’s crew (My new best friend Luke is the gentleman to the far right)

Fast forward to going to look at the truck (minus double digit temp), the truck won’t start but I am in love with it and promptly offer to buy it…they get the battery fixed…Luke kindly offers to help get the truck where it needs to be in order to get the work done…again in double digit below temps and on icy roads, Luke  and Angie, our Marketing Coordinator have been the dynamic duo that has been organizing  to get the truck  awning cut out…then over to get the truck painted (A big THANK YOU to Mark at Maaco for doing our paint job gratis, don’t worry we will be throwing those kind folks some beer 🙂 ), next off to get the brakes fixed – in retrospect we maybe should have done this first…but Luke and Angie are hearty and manage to avoid any major mishaps (or so I have been told).

You may be wondering – exactly what is a Reverse Food Truck (RFT)? Click here to have a peak of our RFT!  The idea is that we will be collecting food instead of selling food. We  also  have an app created so folks can donate via credit card as well.

We have some big goals along with our food bank partner the Emergency Foodshelf Network (EFN) – we want to raise $5,000 worth of food/donations in March, which is the month that hosts the largest statewide food drive through Minnesota Foodshare. We plan to run our food drive through October and our goal is to raise $50,000 in food/donations.

Want to be a part of this innovative and fun food drive!? Good news –  we have loads of ways for you to get involved!!!

  • Turn up with a donation to our food drive  kick off at Kieran’s Pub on 3/15 from noon – 4pm – stay tuned in to our social media for updates on where the RFT will be.
  • Have an upcoming event where you would like to have the RFT and plug in a food drive? Let us know at info@finnegans.org
  • We will be hosting monthly food drive competitions – have some ideas? Email us at info@finnegans.org. We will donate a FINNEGANS Pub party for whichever group raises the most food/$$ each month.

I haven’t been this jazzed about a creative idea for raising money and food to help those in need since starting the beer company…a huge bit of gratitude to Tom Moudry and the amazing M|W team for so selflessly sharing their gifts with our humble beer brand…what truly amazing  and talented people they are.

Please be a part of this very cool opportunity – we would l love to hear from you!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day – let’s raise some pints and some food this season!!
